Pantries / Mudrooms
MUD ROOMS
The mud room is the barrier between the outdoors and indoors.  This is where the kids pile the coats, backpacks, gloves, and boots.  This is usually the informal everyday entrance which gets little attention but needs good organization.  When designing your mud room make sure to think about open shelves, hooks for coats, baskets for gloves, hats and scarves.  This can be a place to store sports equipment and most of all.....a place for those wet, muddy or even snow covered boots before they leave their mark on your kitchen floor!

Pantries
Are wonderful rooms off the kitchen which can store many non-perisable goods as well as small appliances and many other items that just don't seem to have a home in your kitchen cabinets.  An Organized pantry can make cooking a pleasure,  but for cluttered & unorganized pantries, very often you either can't find the item or they are stacked behind so many cans that you simply buy more unaware of how many you already have.    Here are a few idea's to keep your pantry working for you  - not against you:

Don't go too deep just because you have the space - plan the storage
so that deep shelves are for small appliances, baskets or large
  serving  platters.

Keep frequently used items within arms reach.

Keep like items together - baking shelf, canned fruit etc..

Keep cereal and healthy snacks within a childs reach (if they are
are allowed to get items themselves).

Keep heavy items like small appliances or bottled water on the floor
  or lower shelf.

Keep a list of items that need to be purchased on the door or put
up a whiteboard so you can add to the "buy this week list" when you
  run out.
